Mr Goh Kee Nguan
Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon.

  1. I am happy to be here to witness the sponsorship signing between the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and DBS Bank. A Singapore main board listed company, DBS has grown and established itself as one of the largest financial services groups in Asia.
  2. As Singapore gets ready to host the first Youth Olympic Games (YOG) next year, we will need many helping hands to make this event a success. The strong partnership between the private and public sectors, and the involvement of the community is important.
  3. More than 15,000 Singaporeans have shown their enthusiasm and commitment by signing up as volunteers for the Games. Youth and community organisations are also celebrating Singapore 2010 through events that they organise for the community, such as the Singapore 2010 CAN! festivals, to promote the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
  4. On the business front, local companies have also stepped forward to support the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games - Changi Exhibition Centre is our Official Logistics Partner, KhattarWong is our Legal Services Sponsor, and Crocodile International is our Official Apparel Partner.
  5. Today, I would like to welcome DBS as the Official Banking Partner for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Under the sponsorship agreement, DBS and Visa will issue multi-functional prepaid cards that can be used before, during and after the Games. The cards will enable athletes to have access to cashless banking services in the Youth Olympic Village, take public transport around Singapore, and pay for purchases when they shop.
  6. As an organisation that recognises the importance of educating the young, DBS has embarked on many worthwhile projects to help youths to be the best that they can be so as to achieve their goals. This partnership marks yet another contribution by DBS to youth development in Singapore and Asia. The sponsorship will also boost Singapore's aim to boost its development as a regional sporting hub.
  7. I believe that the YOG provides a great opportunity for companies in Singapore to promote their products and services, and most importantly, to showcase their capabilities and high standards to the world.
  8. I would like to congratulate SYOGOC and DBS on the start of this fruitful partnership for the first YOG. With corporate partners like DBS, I am confident that Singapore will deliver a successful and meaningful Games in August 2010.
  9. Thank you.
