Acting Minister Lawrence Wong calls on the Prime Minister of Bhutan, His Excellency Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay

Acting Minister for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) Mr Lawrence Wong is in the Kingdom of Bhutan till 4 December 2013, at the invitation of their Prime Minister, His Excellency Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay.
During the trip, Mr Wong called on Prime Minister Tobgay and the Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs Damchoe Dorji, where they discussed the growing friendship between Bhutan and Singapore and noted that the direct flights between the two countries have resulted in an increase of Singaporeans visiting Bhutan, be it as tourists or volunteers in Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). Prime Minister Tobgay also expressed his appreciation to the Singapore Government for the support extended in the development of Human Resources, e-Government and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) masterplan.
Mr Wong also met some Singaporeans who are living and working in Bhutan. Mr Gary Chia, 35, one of the Singaporeans whom Mr Wong met, is a social worker and had, through the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), volunteered in Bhutan for several months, contributing to their youth programmes. He is currently a Youth Development Trainer at the Department of Youth and Sports (DYS) with the Ministry of Education in Thimphu, Bhutan.
