Mr Lawrence Wong: "MCCY’s formation is a commitment to build the best home for our people."
01 November 2012
- 1st November 2012 marks the start of the new Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) led by Acting Minister Mr Lawrence Wong. The new Ministry will seek to inspire Singaporeans through the arts and sports, strengthen community bonds, and promote volunteerism and philanthropy. MCCY has been established following the restructuring of two other Ministries, as announced in July by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
- Mr Wong said: “MCCY’s formation is a commitment to build the best home for our people. It marks an important milestone in our nation’s development. Singapore has achieved much economic progress over the years, and this provides us a firm foundation to sustain a better quality of life for all. With the arts, heritage, sports, youth and community engagement under the MCCY family, we can work with Singaporeans to create new opportunities that would help to fulfil diverse aspirations and nurture stronger communities in our multicultural society. Together, we can build a better Singapore.”
- The new Ministry assumes some of the roles held by the former Ministry for Community, Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. It will bring into sharper focus the efforts to build a more cohesive and vibrant society, and to deepen a sense of identity and belonging to the nation. Through active engagements with the arts, heritage, sports and youth communities, the Ministry will seek to work with its stakeholders to create an environment where Singaporeans can pursue their aspirations for a better quality of life and together, build a gracious and caring society we are proud to call home. (Please refer to Annex A for MCCY’s Functions and Annex B for its Organisation Chart).
