Amid the challenges brought about by COVID-19, many have begun to rediscover the benefits of sport and exercise – that it not only improves one’s physical fitness, but also enhances mental and emotional well-being.
The essential nature of sport is outlined in the Joint Statement on “The Impact of COVID-19 on Sport, Physical Activity and Well-being and its effects on Social Development”. The statement recommends how nations can maximise the benefits of sport and physical activity during COVID-19 and beyond. Singapore is among the 118 United Nations member states that have supported this statement.
At the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), we recognise that sport unites us all as an inclusive and resilient nation. We stand together with the nations around the world in upholding the value of sport.
